Adriaen van der Cabel (1631-1705) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, born in the small town of Rijswijk, near The Hague. Supposedly his real name was van der Touw, meaning "of String", but that wasn't grand enough so he changed it to mean "of Cable." His brother Engel van der Cabel was also an artist. He moved to Lyon as a young man, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life.
