Description

A late 20th century oil depicting the crucifixion of Jesus. The artist has captured the moments after Jesus' death, where he descends from the cross. Mimicking other works from Peter Paul Rubens, Caravaggio, Charles Le Brun and Van Der Weyden. Here the figures are seen taking down Jesus's lifeless body, and wrapping it in white cloth. This work by Van Huffel best resembles the composition by Peter Paul Rubens. Stylistically Van Huffel has a naive, almost childlike approach, with his simplistic faces and bold splashes of colour. Overall this piece has a very striking appearance. Well presented in a gilt effect frame. Signed and dated. On canvas board.

Condition

There are areas of craquelure and very minor areas of paint loss. Noticeably to the lower left corner. However this is very minimal. Areas of surface dirt. Inspection under UV light reveals no signs of restoration.
