Description
A vibrant and atmospheric Mediterranean harbour scene, depicting colourful fishing boats drawn up along the waterfront beneath a bright summer sky. The striking red sails of the central boats provide a vivid focal point against the cool blue waters, while a picturesque hillside town rises beyond the harbour, crowned by a distinctive church or chapel. The artist has used a fresh, expressive palette of sun-washed blues, warm terracotta, soft ochres and sandy tones to capture the brilliant Mediterranean light. Loose, confident brushwork gives the scene a wonderfully spontaneous quality, particularly in the handling of the boats, sails and shimmering water. A lively and evocative coastal study, capturing the relaxed character and brilliant light of a Mediterranean fishing port. Signed lower right. Well presented in a handsome gilt-effect frame. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
A light patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. In the top left corner, the canvas is slightly indented on the stretcher so a small gap is visible from certain angles. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
