A vibrant nautical scene by the well listed British artist George Richard Deakins. The use of heavy impasto applied with a palette knife and vivid block colours is a trademark of Deakin's work. The oil has been presented in a large wooden frame with internal slip. Signed to the lower left and dated, 1970. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and dirtying to the the canvas. There is some craquelure visible on the surface. The linen slip has discoloured over time.

Artist Biography
George R. Deakins was born in 1911, and is best-known for his expressive oils, often completed using a palette knife. Self-taught, he was born in Gosport of a naval family. Deakins served with the Royal Navy for 22 years from 1927 and during this time he exhibited throughout the world, with over 60 one-man shows. When he retired he opened a studio at Dunster, Somerset, where he lived until his death.
