A fine early 20th-century portrait by the German genre painter Otto Karl Kirberg. Executed in the Dutch Old Master tradition, the work depicts a young lute player dressed in a sumptuous orange velvet jacket trimmed with fur. Kirberg demonstrates exceptional mastery of light, using it to illuminate the sitter and enhance the rich textures of the fabric, creating a warm and engaging presence. Signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure and light abrasions throughout. Discolouration to the surface. Inspection under UV light reveals small areas of restoration. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
