Martin Vernon (b.1966) - 1992 Oil Riding The Economic Pig
Description
A highly unusual, surreal, scene in oil. This painting has the appearance of a modern political cartoon or piece of political satire. The pig likely represents the economy, being ridden and explored by hoards of pin striped suited men, possibly referencing the "fat cats" of the city. This painting has architectural elements and lighting reminiscent of the Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico.
An overall striking painting of considerable size, presented in a dark blue wood frame. The artist has monogrammed and dated to the lower left corner.
On canvas.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including general surface dirtying. There is an area of restoration to the lower part of the suit of the man holding the flag in the foreground.
