A truly exquisite late 19th Century full length portrait in the unmistakable style of the renowned painter and close associate of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Sir Frederic Leighton. Whilst the painting does not appear to be a direct copy from any of Leighton's works, it certainly shares the same compositional style (most notably seen in his portrait of Crenaia, the Nymph Of Dargle) and the figure has many of the qualities of Leighton's muses. The architectural surroundings are also very indicative of Leighton's work. The painting has been executed with an incredibly delicate and skilled hand, working the oil in a subtle and ethereal way, to give sensual skin tones and sift shadows. Whether the artist was a follower of Leighton's or in his circle, the influencce is undeniable.
The painting is unsigned and exquisitely frame in a manner fitting of the Pre-Raphelite image, in a handsome 19th Century gilt frame with beaded strap work and a wide gilt internal slip.
On wove.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some MINOR discolouration. There is some tarnishing and touching in o the gilt of the frame and some aging to the gilt slip. There are some small repaired losses to the beaded strap work.
