A skilful copy after the Dutch Golden Age painter Gerrit Dou's 'A Maidservant Scouring a Brass Pan at a Window.' The original, approximately a quarter of the size of this copy, is held in the Royal Collection. The scene depicts a maidservant scouring a brass pan, with a pewter pot and a skimmer resting on the ledge. Like many of Dou's works, the scene is framed within a window. The painting is well presented in an ornate gilt frame with a fluted cove, adorned with foliate, beaded, and lamb's tongue running patterns. Unsigned. On panel.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Scuffs, stable cracking, and some small losses to the frame. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
