Description

A characterful copy of Fred Barnard's illustration, Bill Sikes and Bullseye from the Charles Dickens novel 'The Adventures of Oliver Twist'. Much like Barnards character study, this oil precisely captures the relationship between the vicious owner and his mistreated dog as given in Dickens's text. The painting has been well-presented in a decorative gilt frame will foliate mouldings. Inscribed to the reverse. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There is a small hole in the canvas visible to the top of Bill Sikes's hat. Inspection under UV light reveals several areas of overpainting towards the edges of the canvas. Light wear visible to the gilt frame and small losses to the mouldings.

Size

55.5 x 40cm (21.9" x 15.7")
Framed Size: 61.5 x 46.5cm (24.2" x 18.3")
