The scene depicts a row of grand houses rendered in warm ochres and terracotta tones, their façades partially obscured by a screen of bare winter trees in the foreground. The artist employs loose, expressive brushwork and a palette of earth tones to capture the subdued light and melancholic mood of a winter's day, with patches of snow visible on the ground. Signed and dated 'Petley 59' to the lower right. The painting is well presented in a contemporary silver gilt frame. Inscribed verso. On canvas.
