A wonderfully detailed monochrome portrait of Sir Phillip Sidney, author of the tragicomic 'The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia'. Inscribed in pen 'Sir Philip Sidney, the charming author of the Arcadia' to the lower margin. Laid to backing board. Unsigned. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With foxing across the page and a crease to the upper right corner.
