Colin Clough Hilton (1902–1984) -Early 20th Century Watercolour A Mother's Love
Description
A beautiful early 20th Century (c. 1930-40) watercolour of impressive size. The scene shows a beautiful mother with dark hair in a Pre-Raphaelite style dress in pink and green, holding her young child on her lap. The mother has a far off, dreamy gaze with her head tilted. Her elegant hands gently cradle the cherubic form of her child who gazes directly at the viewer. This painting shows a wonderfully intimate moment between mother and child, in a delicate, ethereal garden setting. This painting has much of the romanticism and Grecian elements, reflected in the work of the Pre-Raphaelites.
The artist has signed to the lower right and the painting is on watermarked wove and has been presented in a dark oak frame with gold mount.
On watermarked wove.Condition
The mount has some scuffing at the lower edge. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including minor discolouration.
