This vibrant watercolour with gouache by British painter William Harris Weatherhead (1843-1903) depicts a contemplative woman holding a rose. She sits against a backdrop of a serene lake surrounded by lush, verdant foliage. Weatherhead has rendered her elegant dress with particular attention to detail. Monogrammed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in an ornate gilt-effect frame. On paper.Condition
The condition is good for a picture of this age, with excellent colour retention. Wear and scuffs to the frame. Some debris caught under the glass.

Artist Biography
William Harris Weatherhead was a painter born in Marylebone, London. He primarily specialised in genre scenes. He may have received his early artistic training from his father who was an engraver. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1885 and also exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. Examples of his work are in the collections of the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath, Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, and National Trust and Gallery Oldham.
