Late 19th Century Oil - Still Life Melon & Grapes
Description
A sumptuous still life study featuring a freshly cut melon, accompanied by clusters of ripe grapes and a simple knife. The fruit is rendered with an appealing sense of richness and freshness, its luscious textures and natural colours making the arrangement particularly inviting and almost tactile. The carefully composed arrangement draws strongly on the tradition of Dutch Old Master still life, with a considered balance of fruit, objects and space, alongside a sensitive treatment of light, shadow and texture. The result is an elegant and atmospheric study with a distinctly classical character. Well presented in a dark wood carved frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Minor surface marks and abrasions. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Fine craquelure observed throughout. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. Small chips and indentations to the frame. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
