Three young gentlemen gather around an array of intriguing objects in this curious 19th-century genre scene. The gentleman on the right-hand side examines a sword, whilst the two on the sofa are engaged in conversation. Surrounding them is a rich interior laden with fine furniture and fabrics. Unsigned, however, a signature appears to have been previously removed and overpainted to the lower right. Inscribed '72' verso, possibly indicating the date 1872. Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration to the varnish and ingrained dirt to the surface. There is light wear to the frame; however, the overall condition is good.
