A fine and delicate interior of a room with two seated figures, a piano and rear doors opening onto a garden, by the artist Elizabeth Lavinia Vernon-Harcourt, Lady Norreys and later Countess of Abingdon (1816-1858). There is a delicate treatment of light in the scene, with detailed furniture and two figures in Victorian dress. Inscribed 'Enis 1837' in the mount and to the reverse, this may be referring to the country house and estate of Enys, in Cornwall. Well-presented in a washline mount with gilt detail. Signed and Inscribed on the reverse. On wove.
Condition
In fine condition for a picture of this age, including some discolouration. Only slight scuffing and age toning to the edges of the mount.

Artist Biography
Elizabeth Lavinia Vernon-Harcourt, Lady Norreys, was born in 1816. She was the daughter of George Granville Harcourt and Lady Elizabeth Bingham. She married Montagu Bertie, 6th Earl of Abingdon, son of Montagu Bertie, 5th Earl of Abingdon and Emily Gage, on 7 January 1835 at Nuneham. She died on 16 October 1858 at Wytham Abbey, Berkshire, England.
