Joseph William Topham Vinall was a painter, printmaker, teacher and writer, born in Liverpool, the brother of Nehemiah Row Reeves Vinall. He studied at RCA under Frank Short and at the City and Guilds of London Art School. He exhibited extensively at Walker's Gallery, London and the RA, ROI, RI, Paris Salon and RP. He was elected a member of UA and National Society of Art Masters and the RSMA, 1946. Vinall also published a number of books, including Art and How to Study It and Pastel Work for Schools. He lived in Ealing, west London and was the father of Ella Doreen Vinall.
