A very finely painted 19th century English watercolour by the well listed artist Joseph Needham (c.1810-1880). The scene depicts a glimpse of the turquoise sea amid an expansive mountainous landscape. The fine brushstrokes and panoramic composition is typical of Needham's painterly style. It is clear the artist felt a deep connection with the British landscape in this romantic view of the English countryside. Presented in a card mount. Signed. On wove.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With foxing visible across the page.

We acquired this charming album by well listed Victorian artist Joseph Needham (c.1810-1880) containing twelve mounted watercolour studies. The selection includes a number of mountainous scenes, a coastal scene and a study of Glastonbury Tor. Examples of Needham's work can be found in the British Museum collection.

Joseph Needham was a talented landscape painter and printmaker. His subjects include panoramic landscapes, architectural views, naval and military subjects. He lived and worked in London for Day & Son a major British lithographic firm.
