John Hamilton Glass (1820-1885) was a Scottish painter of portraits, highland landscapes and coastal scenes. His style reflects the progressive and innovative movement of art occurring in Scotland at the end of the 19th century. He was elected as a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1849 and he exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1847 and 1859, as well as the Royal Hibernian Academy and Glasgow Institute of Fine Art. He then went on to emigrate to Australia, where he gave up painting.
