An impressive Victorian seascape painting probably depicting Dunnottar Castle in Scotland. The vivid tones of the turquoise sea in contrast to the grey of the sky, evokes a drama in the Scottish landscape. Well presented in a gilt frame with leaf and berry and acorn detail, with a gilt slip. Signed and dated. On canvas.
Condition
Inspection under UV light reveals some spots of retouching to the sky area. There is also some discolouration to the varnish and very fine craquelure in places. With a number of losses to the frame which have been filled and repainted.
