Italian School 19th Century Oil - Mother and Child

Description

An intimate 19th century portrait capturing a tender moment between a mother and child, with the child's arms gently wrapped around the mother's neck as they pose in an affectionate embrace. The artist has expertly captured the moment with soft, careful brushstrokes. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame with an oval slip. On canvas laid to panel.

Condition

The condition is typical for an artwork of this age, including discolouration to the varnish, ingrained dirt and craquelure to the surface. Previously framed in tondo. Inspection under UV light reveals very small areas of restoration. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age, including scuffs, losses, and indentations. In particular a small loss is noted to the lower right corner.
