Artist Biography
Hugh E Ridge (1899-1976) a 20th century seascape paint. He was born
in Barnstaple Devon but moved to St Ives in about 1947. He was an active
member of the St Ives Society of Artists and became chairman of the
Society from 1958 -1976. The St Ives Society was formed in 1927
although artists had been coming here since the 19th century amongst
them JM W Turner and James Whistler. Hugh Ridge was also elected to full
membership of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. Examples of his work
is held in the permanent collection of the National Maritime Museum
Cornwall and the National Maritime Museum.
