Description

A delicate, naïve study of English fishing and maritime interest. A lone figure with a basket on his back walks along the shoreline, whilst two ships float in the distance - one a small fishing rig, the other a larger sailing vessel, possibly naval. Presented in a gilt-effect frame. Unsigned. An early to mid 20th century label attributes the work to the artist John Park; however, we do not believe this attribution to be accurate. On canvas laid to board.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age. Light surface discolouration throughout, including yellowing to the varnish layer. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. The frame has minor surface wear, including small chips, scuffs, indentations and stable cracking. The artwork is in good condition for its age.
