Marinus Johannes de Jongere (1912-1978) - Framed Oil Harbour View Rotterdam
Description
An expansive oil landscape of the Port of Rotterdam, attributed to Dutch impressionist Marinus Johannes de Jongere (1912-1978). The scene depicts a view of Europe's largest seaport with boats and barges on the water. Several of the port's tugs can be seen navigating through choppy waves to help manoeuvre a large cargo ship with cranes on board. The oil has been beautifully presented in an extravagant gilt-effect frame with acanthus strapwork. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some craquelure to the surface of the oil. Inspection under UV light reveals no signs of restoration. There are a few small losses and moulding repairs visible on the large frame. Gilt paint has been previously used to touch up parts of the top member.
