A path leads away from the viewer into the depth of the picture, past bare trees and bushes. Deeply autumnal in feeling, with layers of dying foliage and dry grasses worked up across the surface, the muted browns are lifted by dashes of red and orange where the leaves catch the light. An atmospheric landscape, painted with a slight impasto. Well presented in a gilt-effect frame. Signed lower right. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Minor surface marks and abrasions. A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Inspection under UV light reveals no apparent restoration. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
