Artist Biography

Herbert Alexander RWS (1874-1946) was a British painter. He was born in London, he studied at Herkomer Art School, Bushey, and later at the Slade School. During World War I he enlisted in the 5th Buffs, serving in India and Mesopotamia. He was elected an associate of the RWS in 1905, and a full member in 1927. He exhibited at the Baillie Gallery, Dudley Gallery Art Society, Dowdeswells, Fine Art Society, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Watercolour Society, Walker's Gallery, and Walker Art Gallery and is represented in the Ulster Museum, Belfast. His daughter Camilla Alexander was a mural painter.
