A charming watercolour scene depicting the Pump Rooms in Bath alongside the entrance to the Roman Baths. Signed to the lower right. Titled verso. On paper laid to card.

Condition

There is some discolouration to the paper. There is some creasing and light wear to the edges of the paper.

Artist Biography

Mary Williams RWA (1911-2002) was a painter, born in Ottery St. Mary, Devon. She attended the Exeter School of Art, and in 1935 became a member of the Exeter Art Society. In 1937 she joined RWS Art Club, and in 1948 the Somerset Society of Artists. Four years later she was elected to membership at the SWA and in 1959 an Associate at the RWA. In 1960 she joined the St. Ives Society of Artists. Her work was hung regularly at the RWA from 1950, and she was elected Academician of that society in 1965.

The first important showing of her work was at the Paris Salon in 1938 and her works was also exhibited at RA, RSA, RBA, RSMA, RWS and SGA. Examples of her work are in the collections at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, where she held a solo exhibition in 1974, the Sunderland Museum and Art Gallery, and the Ministry of Works, as well as in the permanent collection at the RWA.
