Several figures sit on the edge of a dock, while the crenelated silhouette of Windsor Castle rises impressively across the river. Signed and dated to the lower left. Well presented in a dark wooden frame with a beaded running pattern and blue mount. On watercolour paper.Condition
Some discolouration and light foxing to the paper, which is typical for a picture of this age. Marks and scuffs to the frame, and some slight discolouration to the mount.

Artist Biography
Russell Dowson (1841-1914) was a painter of landscapes and coastal scenes born in Norfolk. His art education is not known but his early career shows him working as a sugar refiner and then an accountant. It was not until the census of 1881 that he is recorded as an artist. Dowson was a prolific exhibitor, including at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Dudley Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, and Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
