A characterful scene depicting the vain, buffoonish knight Sir John Falstaff with the comic thief Bardolph. The characters appear in several of Shakespeare's plays: Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2, Henry V, and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Some small losses to the paint, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Wear around the edges of the canvas. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
