Artist Biography
Walter Hunt was famous for his depiction of animals particularly dogs and barnyard scenes similar to his father Charles Hunt, (1830-1900) and his brothers Reuben Hunt, Claud Hunt, (b. 1863) and Edgar Hunt. His popular animal images were (and still are) reproduced by the thousands in the early 20th century as lithographic prints and on calendars. Hunt showed at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Walker Art Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts and at Arthur Tooth & Sons. Examples of his work are held in the collections of Glasgow Museums, Leeds Museums and Galleries, Leicester Arts and Museums Service, Museums Sheffield, Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, Tate Gallery and Wolverhampton Arts and Heritage.
