Harold Lawes (1865-1940) - Framed Early 20th Century Watercolour End of Day

Description

This delightful watercolour captures a farming family greeting each other at the farmhouse gate. A young girl can be seen eagerly awaiting the return of her father after a long day in the field. Stooks of hay can be seen to the distance, adjacent to the large thatched cottage with hollyhocks in the front garden. The watercolour has been signed by the artist to the lower right. Well-presented in a substantial wooden frame with an inner slip and glazing. On paper.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration to the watercolour and splintering to the e distressed wood frame.

Artist Biography

Harold Lawes (1865-1940) was a Victorian landscape painter who lived in London. He depicted scenes from both the English countryside and Scottish loch sides. His preferred medium was watercolours. Exhibited: 1892 Birmingham Royal Society of Artists.
