Description

This charming rural watercolour by Joseph William Milliken (1865-1945) depicts a quiet village lane with several stone cottages and a large red brick farmhouse. Almost tucked out of sight, three cattle can be seen walking in for milking. The watercolour has been well presented in a wash line mount and gilt effect frame. Signed lower right. On paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration to the watercolour and light wear to the gilt-effect frame. There is a small loss to the upper-left corner moulding.

Artist Biography

Joseph William Milliken (1865-1945) was a Liverpool-born landscape artist who also painted continental scenes in watercolours. Milliken exhibited many times at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and also showed at Royal Academy and Royal Cambrian Academy.
