An impressive engraving by John Hall (1739-1797) after Benjamin West's (1738-1820) 1772 painting. The scene depicts William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, entering into the Treaty of Shackamaxon in 1683 with Tamanend of the Lenape. The treaty created peace between the Quakers and native Lenape people. Inscribed below the image within the plate. Well presented in a gilt frame. On paper.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age including discoloration, light foxing, and creases to the paper. Small repair to the paper to the lower centre. Overall the artwork is in good condition for its age. Marks and scuffs to the frame.
