Description

A painting after Rembrandt's (1606-1669) painting 'Samson and Delilah' (1629-1630), in the collection of the Gemaldegalerie, Berlin. Presented in a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame with a black window. Signed and dated to the lower-right edge. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There are four small areas of restoration to the canvas in the lower-right quadrant, one in the lower-left quadrant, and one in the upper-right quadrant. Inspection under UV light reveals retouching to the corresponding areas on the paint layer which is also visible at an oblique angle, most notably to Delilah's leg. There is some slight textural inconsistency to the varnish.
