A fine hand coloured aquatint showing a fine carriage with four white horses and men in livery, about to pull away from The Star Inn in Oxford. This bustling street scene is a wonderful depiction of costume during the era. The engraving was sculpted by Frederic James Havell (1801-1840) after the original painting by his older brother George Havell (1799-1825). The print has been inscribed in plate with the title, dedication and names of artist and engraver.
The paper has a watermark "J Whatman, Turkey Mill."
On wove.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There have been repairs to the paper at the bottom left quadrant and two pin holes in the top right quadrant. There is some creasing outside the plate lines to the top left edge.
