This monochrome oil painting by artist George Edward Robertson (1864-1920), depicts a gentleman returning home for the winter season. The elderly man can be seen greeting his family with open arms, while a carriage boy closely follows with his luggage and Christmas goose. The painting is signed to the lower right-hand corner. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and rust spots to the canvas. Inspection under UV light reveals some signs of restoration, to include areas of overpainting to the lower left-hand corner. Visible across the painted scene is the artist's grid marks and areas of craquelure.
