Carl Fredrik Kiörboe (1799-1876) was a Danish-born Swedish painter and lithographer known for his dynamic animal scenes and equestrian portraits. Initially trained in commerce, he shifted to art after studying animal anatomy with his uncle, a veterinary surgeon. Kiörboe served in the Swedish cavalry, where he began painting horses, eventually developing a reputation for lifelike depictions of animals and portraits of European royalty, including King Karl XIV Johan and Napoleon III. He gained prominence in Paris and was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. After losing his studio during the Paris Commune, he spent his final years painting in Dijon, France.
