Fritz Sohäfer - 20th Century Oil, The Punch Line
A joyful interior scene showing a group of men and women sat at a tavern table. One man is delivering the punch line to a story, with arm raised in the air and a laughing smile on his face as his companions listen and laugh at his tale. The scene is lit with softly shafting light, entering through a raised window to the right.
The painting is signed to the lower left, partially obscured by the frame. It has been presented in a substantial 20th Century gilt frame with oversize foliate molding at the corners and beaded strap work.On board.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The frame has general tarnishing to the gilt, a modern gilt effect has been applied to the foliate molding and there is some cracking at the lower right corner.
