Etcher and painter of portraits and topographical subjects. He was largely self-taught but did receive some assistance from his friend Muirhead Bone. He probably saw active service in World War I as he produced some authoritative watercolours of the Battle of Ypres in 1917 and he also assisted with illustrations of the 51st Highland Division War Sketches in 1920. He also etched views of London, Glasgow, Paris and other European cities some of which were shown at the RA, RSA, GI, Connell and Sons and at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. His work is in the collections of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow and Paisley Art Gallery.
