Description
A finely detailed etching of the Dome of the Rock, a shrine in Jerusalem. The oldest surviving work of Islamic architecture, the shrine was built on the orders of Abd al-Malik in 691-692 CE. Signed in graphite to the lower right. Numbered 8/25. On paper.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and foxing to the paper. There is a small loss to the upper left corner and a crease to the lower left corner.

Artist Biography
Frederick Halpern (b.1909) was an artist and writer. After studying painting and printmaking in Paris and Vienna, he lived in Australia in the early 1950’s. He also travelled extensively, visiting New Zealand, Java, and Bali, amongst others places.
