Depicting two nude studies of the same model from different angles. Josse captures the model from behind, highlighting the curves in her body in charcoal and ink details. The study on the left is also outlined in red chalk.

Signed twice below each study.

Even discolouration. Holes along the entire top edge of the drawing from where the page has been taken from a sketchbook.

Artist Biography

Born in Nantes, France in 1910, Francois Xavier Josse was a French painter and sculptor who specialised in life drawings of nude female models.

He studied at Beaux-Arts in Nantes before moving to Paris to further his studies at the Academies of the Grand-Chaumière and the Colarossi Academy in 1930. A retrospective of his work was organised in Paris in 1989.
