Artist Biography
British artist Francis John Wyburd (1826-1909) was born in London but received his artistic training in Lille, France before studying at the Royal Academy Schools. He is known for his sensitive portraits of female sitters, often in historical dress, and typically absorbed in reading or deep in contemplation. He was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, and even attracted the attention of Prince Albert, who expressed an interest in purchasing Wyburd's *The Home of the Mountaineer* had it not been previously disposed of.
