An idyllic watercolour of impressive size, showing a young girl in a pink dress and white pinafore standing in a forest clearing by a river, adjusting her hair as her dog plays in the grass in front of her. The ground is littered with wild flowers and the sun delicately touches the purple mountains in the distance. A truly Romantic view of the countryside, typical of Victorian painters of this time. The artist has signed and dated to the lower left corner.
The painting has bee presented in a handsome late 19th Century frame (dated by the framer's label at the reverse). The gilt frame boasts chain and stud strapwork, a gold mount with inscription and the original glazing.

Little-known Manchester born landscape painter of Irish descent who lived in Liverpool and later at Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex. He travelled and painted in Ireland and exhibited at the Manchester City Art Gallery and at the London Salon. His death was recorded in Hastings.
