Description
A poetic late 19th-century genre painting depicting two Dutch women in traditional dress engaged in everyday labour within a modest interior. One wears a burgundy dress and prepares vegetables, whilst the other sits nearby dressed in blue, reading a paper. Blue and white Delft tiles adorn the stove behind them, with ceramicware resting on the chimney breast ledge. Presented in a decorative gilt-effect frame. Unsigned. On canvas laid to board.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure, surface marks and abrasions observed throughout. Small, localised losses to the paint layer. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of previous restoration. The frame is in very good condition. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
