Set against a mountainous backdrop, cattle graze peacefully beside a tranquil lake whilst smoke drifts gently from the chimney of a wooden chalet. A church spire emerges over the distant hilltop, completing this idyllic Alpine scene. The work dates to the late-nineteenth century and is executed with fine detail. Beautifully presented in a gilt frame with a veneer insert and black border. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.

Overall the condition is good for a picture of this age. Fine craquelure and slight discolouration throughout. Evidence of minor restorative work, including a tear repair and areas of overpainting. Warping to the upper left of the canvas. Scuffs and wear to the frame.
