Description

A fine 19th century equine portrait of a favourite bay hunter from the Elms Stables, Bayswater, London. Presented in its original 19th century gilt frame with foliate centre and corner ornamentation and foliate running pattern. Inscribed 'Elms Bayswater' within the composition. Illegibly inscribed to the reverse, possibly the artist's signature or name of the painting's previous owner. On canvas.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age. Light dirtying to the surface of the artwork and discolouration to the varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals minor restoration and overpainting. Areas of craquelure to the surface and light creasing from the reverse canvas bars. The gilt frame has age-related wear with various chips and rubbing on all rails. There is a loss to the lower right ornament. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.
