A very fine small 19th Century portrait in oil on copper panel, depicting a young girl wearing a large lace collar. The subject, undoubtedly continental, has an Iberian manner about her, with short cropped hair, red beaded necklace and hair ribbon. Evidently, the artist had a considerable proficiency in the medium, with a careful management of tone and shadow, creating a distinct sense of both immediacy and character.
Handsomely framed in an ornate gilt wood and composition frame, with running arabesque patterns, and pronounced corner ornamentation.
Unsigned.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some light surface discolouration, and craquelure across the surface. There are various areas of restoration to the surface, mostly small. The frame is in very good condition, with some small areas of moulding restoration.
