A formal oil portrait of a French military officer in uniform with gold epaulettes and a prominent red sash across his chest, a common mark of high honour. Multiple decorations and medals are visible on the sitter's uniform, including what appear to be star-shaped orders, possibly the Légion d'honneur. The portrait is presented in oval format within an ornate gilt frame complete with bead course decoration. Unsigned. On panel.
Condition
Light abrasions to the perimeter of the painting caused by slight movement in the frame. Light wear noted to the gilt frame. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.
