An interesting depiction of H31, better known as HMS Sterling, which was stationed in Hong Kong during the 1920s. Operating as part of the 8th Destroyer Flotilla, she was a frequent presence in Victoria Harbour alongside other vessels of the era. Chinese fishing boats can be seen gathered around the warship. Rendered in subtle tones that hint at a recently set sun, the calm and tranquil sea presents the vessel at its finest. Presented in a simple wood frame. Signed and dated. On canvas on stretchers.

Signs of wear consistent with age. Minor surface marks and abrasions. Small, localised losses to the paint layer. Tears to the canvas have been previously restored. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. The artwork is in very good condition for its age.
