Fine Oval Late 19th Century Oil - Portrait of a Young Boy

Description

A very finely executed 19th century oil on canvas laid down to board, depicting a young rosy cheeked boy in a collared jumper. The painting is well presented in an ornate gilt oval frame with composite moulding.There is a 19th century Thomas Jackson picture framers label affixed to the reverse. Unsigned.

Condition

There are areas of craquelure visible, and some overall yellowing. Inspection under UV light reveals historic restoration. The substrate appears to have been re-lined. There is an old restoration label on the reverse which states 'Old painting cleaned, lined and repaired'. There are several moulding losses, but these losses have been painted over in gold. Minor cracking to moulding visible. Loss to bottom edge of the frame, also painted over.
